Topic: Dead Like Harry before Dead Like Harry

Not sure whether this is a question or not...maybe it's just a personal observation.

I notice that DLH say they were formed in 2007.
Now, I know and you know, that DLH appeared way before then and that there are two albums to prove it.
But, the first one 'Stories from the Cellar had quite a different line up and 'Red Dress' was not quite the line up it is now.
Both albums are markedly different and both contain excellent songs with great originality.
But DLH now treat KTJOGL as their debut album (not forgetting WWW17 as  a taster!) and it suddenly dawned on me......

I revisited Red Dress the other day and the shift forward to KTJOGL from that album is phenomenal.  DLH have found their style and they wouldn't have found it without all that had gone on before. Any newcomer to DLH must leap straight in with KTJOGL.
I'm glad DLH didn't change their name to reflect the 'new band'..the previous albums all give a clue to what was coming.
It all makes sense to me ...am I right?  (I guess that is the question )

Having said this  I would like to hear 'Shapes on the Ceiling' and 'Set me Free'  receive a new makeover..... just like 'Watching Your Eyes'.

You see, I can't let go of the past smile...but without it we wouldn't have the band it is now... and still early days!!!!
KTJOGL is a classic album and deserves so much.

Mmm

What a question. First of all - we have played Shapes twice on the tour. It's kind of been energized a bit but is pretty much the same Shapes that we played on Red Dress. But I get to play the drum.

Regarding Red Dress and Stories - we're very proud of them, but we kind of think of them as practice. We started very young and it wasn't until 2007 that we felt ready to go for it in the full time sense that we're doing right now. There are songs from Stories I'd love to play again or re-record with the band now - Free as a Bird particularly. But yes, I think we all see KTJOGL as the beginning. What went before was a learning thing I suppose? The other thing to remember is that songs sound different depending on who is playing them - so if you strip back all the instruments and play songs from any of the three recordings on a piano or acoustic, they probably all sound of a more similar style. But who am I kidding. It's all about the keyboards

Re: Dead Like Harry before Dead Like Harry

Think my favourite tracks from that era that I'd love to hear the current line up play are Fireflies and Lake Geneva, though I personally think every single track on those first 'practice' albums are utterly beautiful. Will never tire of listening to them.

Re: Dead Like Harry before Dead Like Harry

I like the thought that they are 'practice albums' ....and such brilliant 'practice'  albums!! Yes, it does all  make sense.

The investment in early songwriting is paying dividends. I hope lots of people are downloading KTJOGL  or buying it!!!!
